Universal acceptability is very difficult for a politician to get and that is what Sushma Swaraj got in a big way. She enjoyed affection and respect across people of different political as well as religious affiliations. People always looked up to her
The biggest gift that any VIP or VVIP can give to people is a quick and meaningful response. Sushma Swaraj did that very well. She was very active on Twitter and would respond very quickly to anybody who reached out to her there. People knew that if they ever faced a bureaucratic glitch, Sushma Swaraj was the “go-to” person. The confidence this created was commendable.
Sushma Swaraj was most certainly a patron of learning too, yet another addition to her rich repertoire. Besides the extensive knowledge that she had of Indian culture, she also had a deep knowledge of Sanskrit. She also wanted to promote it in a big way knowing that Sanskrit is a very scientific language and also that it would be universally acceptable.
Sushma Swaraj was very humble and did not ever let ego get into the way of her functioning. When something was of such prime importance that it had to be dealt with by the highest authority in our land, even if it pertained to her ministry, she was willing to step back and let the other person take the stage. And she never backed off when a tough situation called for tough solutions.
The departure of Sushma Swaraj from our planet so prematurely is indeed a loss. We need many more of such mature, humane and driven politicians.
